Picnic in the Park

On Saturday, September 12th the Antelope community Lyons Club hosted a free Picnic-in-the Park. There were only a few other vendors there so it was a perfect time to advertise my preschool! We had a cup game and gave away prizes and baloons with my business card attached. The weather was a bit weird but all in all it was a good day. My kids "helped" for awhile, too!

Fairy Falls Hike...Labor Day

Last year my mom gave me this great book called "60 hikes in 60 miles". It's loaded with 60 hikes around the Sacramento area that you can drive to within 60 miles...give or take a few. Today our family had a leisurely start to this hike, up near Camp Far West. It took us about an hour to get there. The lake was incredibly low so we wondered if there would be any falls flowing. We headed off on what the book described as a 5.8 mile hike, roundtrip.
It didn't take long before we thought we were lost, but we found some boysenberry bushes to nibble on and we were happy again!

Kim gathered quite a few. They all weren't terribly sweet, but we had fun picking anyway.

Farther down the trail, which was mostly in the sun, Aaron and I found these pinecones. He wanted a "before and after picture"...before squirrel and after squirrel. It was pretty amazing, these pinecones are heavy and thick!

The trail was well marked and easy to follow most of the way, and good hills to climb, too!

When we found the falls Aaron was the first to walk out.

Kim was a bit nervous about the edge.

We stopped at the top of the falls to eat our PB&J and other snacks we carried in our hydration packs. Aaron used his knife to pry the pine nuts out of the pinecone.

We set the timer on the camera a took a quick family photo.

The water was rushing pretty fast.

I loved the way this partof the falls made a zig-zag!

Kim and I decided to put our feet in while the boys opted for a swim!

After a refreshing water soak we packed up and set back for home.

We took some pictures on the way out because it was hard to believe that hidden behind this dry grassy area was a beautiful waterfall. We would've never believed it!

Spirit Week @ AHS

This is 5:15 a.m. and Aaron is ready for "geek it up" day! It was hard not to laugh at him as he put on his "costume". His shirt is embroidered with "Dorks on Call". He shopped for his clothes at the D.I. I secretly think he enjoys it. After school that day I picked him up to go directly to an orthodontist appointment. Wouldn't you know it, he didn't want to change his clothes. So off to the ortho appt and then to the grocery store. He received a few stares and chuckles!

On Aaron's birthday Tuesday morning we, (Terry, Kim and I) surprised Aaron with balloons and donuts for his class at seminary. It was western wear day at school.

Happy 15th Birthday Aaron!

Aaron turned 15 on August 25th but he had a party on the 21st. He invited his friends for a BBQ, volleyball, horseshoes, ping-pong, and swimming. He has some great friends (mostly girls though...hmmm...) and it seemed that they had a great time! One of Aaron's favorite presents was from Uncle Rich and Auntie April...ok mostly Rich wanted this for him. He did ask my permission. He opened the air-soft gun and was grinning from ear-to-ear!

Kiera and Taylor gave Aaron the startle of his life when he opened their gift...live frogs! Aaron hates frogs, really, and they pulled this one off! The box below has plastic frogs, but they real ones started moving, and so did Aaron. I wish it wasn't so dark because I have a video of him running and screaming horribly.

The frogs were beautiful, Tucker and Audrey wanted to hold them.

Aaron opened this gift from Paige. A baseball for his collection, signed with her name, and a cake mix and apron with the title "Cook in Training" on the front!

Taylor wrapped Aaron's tennis shoes and gave them back to him! Boys...

10 candles on the cake. 10 is a "nice even number" for all you Monk fans like Aaron.

There was a lot of horse play that night, especially with the boys and Terry. It included some boys being thrown in the pool and some spankings, too!

When we were cleaning up Rod couldn't resist and dumped the entire pitcher of cold lemonade on Aaron's head. He was a little shocked!
