Camping with the Hunts

Every summer we go camping with the Hunt Family and every year we try a new location, never returning to the same place twice. This was our ten year anniversary of camping together and we finally made it to the beach. It has been a running joke that "next year we will camp at the beach"...well next year came. We didn't exactly camp ON the beach but within a few miles. We actually camped at Butano State Park (between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz). It was cool, actually cold at night. Kim layered all the clothes she brought to sleep in!
Terry always does the cooking...because he's the best at it. For lunch we had grilled cheese sandwiches, perfect start!
It was pretty funny that both Julina and Kim (and I) wore our Jr. Cougar Cheer sweatshirts!

After luch we went for a hike. Jeremy, Aaron and Jadon ended up on a 10 mile hike after they both decided that they wanted to complete their hiking merit badge. They still have more hikes to do but this was a start. The rest of us completed about 2.5-3 miles. It seemed longer with a baby and a two-year old, but hey the scenery was beautiful and nobody was complaining.

We found a pretty stream and a place to snap a family picture.

This tree had fallen over a small canyon. The drop is about 20-30 feet underneath. The girls inched their way half way across, but I HAD to go ALL the way...it was a little shaky and the end, but totally cool!

Kim takes her turn holding up this giant tree!

Joshua and I were the end of the hikers and we found berries!

Really tall trees! Marshmellows at our evening campfire (and dirty kids).

Aaron's new signature smile...it's already getting annoying!

Terry's dutch oven peach cobbler. We were all still full from the chicken and dumplings earlier, but we managed to eat a good portion of this!

Aunt Gina brought glow sticks.

Aaron spent a lot of his time reading, and by the fire it was a lot warmer.

After we cleaned and broke camp, which was noon...I can't believe it took us so long...we headed to the beach. The air and water was COLD but the kids didn't seem to mind.
It didn't take long to find a few tidepools and start getting wet!

Aaron and Jadon started collecting rocks from the water in a race to see who could collect more...it must be a boy thing!

Aaron found part of a jelly fish, too!
Then the digging started...

Like father...like son!

Jadon wanted to be buried but didn't think about the sand being cold. I love the expression on his face!
I LOVE this one!
After we were done playingat the beach our family drove further south and stopped at this lighthouse. We didn't stay long, but it was cool to see.
A beautiful view from the lighthouse.

Seals resting and sunning on the rocks.
Then we drove on to Santa Cruz. Our kids had never been to the boardwalk and this was a perfect time to take them there. We walked the beach which was about 20 degrees warmer than the beach we were just at!
And then we rode the Big Dipper, the oldest wooden roller coaster around!

Terry waited for us at the end and took the pics.
After the ride, some ice cream cones and Gilroy garlic fries we started towards home with a visit to Lakeshore near Oakland. My kids least favorite place, but hey, we were that close I couldn't drive by without checking in!
